"Read a little and ponder a lot"

"It is better to read a little and ponder a lot than to read a lot and ponder a little.”
- Denis Parsons Burkitt

One of the joys that book blogging has brought me is the opportunity to reflect and discuss my reading with other people.  I find that as much as I enjoy reading, a book shared is a pleasure multiplied.  The downside to this is finding the balance between reading and discussing books.  I've realized that my book consumption has slightly diminished since I began blogging, but it's a trade-off with which I'm perfectly okay.  But I'd love to have other book bloggers and book lovers chime in - do ever have a hard time balancing time for reading with time to discuss your reading?  Does book blogging ever come between you and a great read?

This post about finding balance and evaluating trade offs is very timely for me. My particular issue is balancing reading for leisure and reading for work--and I consider both my tutoring job and my blogging obligations to be "work."

Sometimes I have to reread a book for "Locus Focus" or for a friend's blog event that I made a previous commitment to, and that cuts into both the leisure reading and the essential pondering. And those are the times when I feel that blogging is making me read a lot and ponder a little. =( So to answer your question, yes, blogging about my reading has cut in when during times when I was actually trying to read. (Is this an irony? LOL!)

There are also moments when I think that I do quite a lot of "work" with no practical compensation, and that I should retire the meme and keep the rest of my blogging within more specific parameters. I hope to reach a decision soon.

Blogging has definitely cut down on my reading, which I find sad, but it's enriched my life too. I don't know about finding a balance, I think I just need more hours in a day.
